About me

Hi, my name is Summer and I am the owner of Pigateers Cavies & Pigateers Rescue & Rehoming.
I have had guinea pigs all my life, with only a few times I can remmeber not having them. But when I started working at a local pet shop in the village I grew up in that was when I did start to become really interested in these little furry creatures. I worked at the pet shop for 5 years, and became the Animal Management for all of the animals there. All the guinea pigs were either home bred or brought form quality local stock. I also did my animal & horse care studies at college. However I only did the first year due to swapping my choice and going into Media Studies.
When I was living with my parents I only had the 2 guinea pigs, brothers called Sparki & Boi. Both where golden however Sparki had a white speck on his nose. Then eventually when I moved out, I gradually got more piggies. Of which was where Pigateers started. I orignally started as '3 Pigateers' However I kept adding to the number so I ditched it and became Pigateers.
My orignal breeding guinea pigs were called Daim, Eclipse, Oreo, Buttons & Mars. They were only pets however they were all so beautiful.
Not even a year after starting to breed. I came across someone selling their guinea pigs on Facebook. I could tell this poor thing wasn't loved, and was in poor condition. He was my very first rescue guinea pig, and this is when Pigateers Rescue & Rehoming was born. 2nd Janurya 2015 I took in Teddy, a smooth pet boar, who had overgrown teeth & nails. Scabs all over his body from bites, fungal and mites. His coat was super oily and he was just lacking any life. Thankfully I got him and he was in good health after a week. I then went on to continue rescuing & rehoming guinea pigs, with the amount of nearly 1.5k guinea pigs I have helped and rescued over 4 years. It has been a complete great honor. While rescuing, I also had my own guinea pigs. Of which I bred & showed them. I started off breeding Agouti Rexes. Which they took my eye the first time I saw them at my very first show.
Over the nearly 6 years of showing & breeding, I am now breeding White Californain's, which also took my eye at my first show. This paticualar breed just asonishes me with how beautifully marked they are. If that is under marked, over marked or just right. They are just an absolutly beautiful breed. Along with the White Calis, I still continue to breed pets now and again.
The journey has been long and tough but it is all completely worth it.
Along with having the guinea pigs, I also have 2 crazy cocker spaniels called Ozzi & Evvi. I also have a 1 year old daugther, who I hope in the future will have the same interest with breeding and showing these lovely little creatures.
In the next year, I am hoping to start my Zoology course online. I would love to work with Zebras, Giraffes & Capybara's.
I would also like to extend my career and do a Teaching course, where this will take me with both courses, I do not know. But both Animals & Teaching are a huge part of my life. And I would love to be successful in both of them.
